If you don’t know, I’ll reveal some information about me that maybe only a few people know. I LOVE Toro Y Moi’s music. Like Anything In Return is a flawless project to me. When an artist emulates that 80’s/pop sound I’m always here for it. One artist that I didn’t expect to go that route is Melvin Burch. This is one of the best songs I’ve heard this month.
Produced by Nadastrom, we get to hear Melvin do singing on this one where the vibe masks the true meaning of the song. While the beat is catchy and he does a great job on the vocals, Melvin is singing about love and heartbreak with “Garden”. “I’ll be fine in a little bit” he chants at the end as his love interest doesn’t end up with him. It’s amazing to hear what such a beautiful beat can inspire, even if it’s not a song about happiness.
