I was wondering when someone was going to sample Hozier’s “Take Me To Church” and flip it for a hip-hop song. The soulful, Irish ballad from 2014 has now been flipped by producer LawBeatz for a socially conscious and aware song from Fairplay.
With clips of Tupac quotes scattered throughout and the haunting vocals of Hozier sped up, Fairplay addresses crooked cops and more on “Take Me To Church”. The beat resembles a trap record but if you listen to what Fair is saying, it’s totally aware of the social issues that are happening with black people and the police. “Denzel in ‘Training Day’ how I look at cops” he rhymes on the second verse, letting you know his stance on authority figures in the community. It’s a powerful song and you won’t be disappointed when you hit play.
