Artist growth is one of my favorite things to watch while running a site for indie music. You get to hear the raw talent from some of these artists as they’re discovering themselves and expanding upon ideas later in their career. Pittsburgh label Rare Nation is a good look at how the artists have evolved over the course of their careers. Their sounds have developed since I found out about their music a few years ago and JKJ is a prime example of this.
JKJ gets personal and dives into his love life on this Norman Dean ($toney) produced single. The beat is hypnotic and draws you in as J tells us about getting his heart broken, being an introvert, and dealing with a woman’s friends. His growth from his first project to now is amazing to see and I think his next body of work will be something worth keeping an eye on for sure.
